Summer & Specialty Camp Schedule

How To Register

Realizing that families have different abilities to pay, this year Lutherwood Camp and Retreat Center has instituted a voluntary three-tier fee program.

You may choose the tier that is most suitable for your family. There is absolutely no obligation to pay higher than Tier I, this is a totally voluntary program.

  • Tier I is our base tuition level, that requires outside funding efforts to cover the direct and indirect costs of operating, maintaining, and upgrading the camp.
  • Tier II is our partially subsidized level that covers about 80% of the true costs of operating, maintaining and upgrading the camp including our low camper to staff ratio and the maintenance and upkeep of our buildings, boats, equipment and island infrastructure.
  • Tier III more closely covers all of the true costs of operating camp.

Specialty Camps

Adventure: Bike the North Cascades

Explore Washington’s beautiful North Cascade Mountains from the seat of your bicycle. We ride about 10-15 miles a day. This is a great opportunity for you and your group to grow, strengthen and encourage each other in faith and fun!

Learn-2-Row

New this year, Lutherwood is working with John Fuchs, head coach of Western Washington University's WWU women's crew team, to provide a "learn to row" opportunity. This program will run like many of our other weeklong resident camp programs, with the activity times focusing on learning the basics of sweep rowing.

What is it?

Two 2 hour sessions Monday through Thursday and one session on Friday learning the basics of sweep rowing. The program will primarily use eights, or 8 person shells.

What is sweep rowing?

Rowing is either done with two oars sculling or one oar sweep. We will teach the basics of sweep rowing. Obviously, in sweep rowing the crew must be made up of an even number of rowers and is always more than one. Two person shells are called 'pairs', four person shells are called 'fours' and eight person shells are called 'eights'. Eights are nearly 60' long and are the most stable of the three sweep shells. Therefore the program will be focused on these shells.

What is a coxswain?

A coxswain is also needed to steer and take charge of the crew. This person is usually smaller and sits at the rear, or 'stern', of the shell. So while the shell is called an 'eight', the crew that rows her is made up of eight rowers and a coxswain.

Who will be teaching the program?

John Fuchs, who is also the Head Women's Rowing Coach at Western Washington University, will be teaching the program. Some of his staff or athletes may also contribute depending on the number of kids in the program.

Why Lutherwood?

In addition to learning rowing skills, our staff will lead the campers in Christian community. We share in Bible study and worship together. Enjoy free time playing games, hanging out, swimming & blobbing. As these athletes are growing in the knowledge of a new sport, they will also have the opportunity to learn and grow in their faith life.
