Summer Adult Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Lutherwood in the summer!
Our summer camp community is one of the main reasons why we believe camp is so special; the long, warm days of laughing, swimming, and Bible study, and the cool, clear nights of campfires, songs, and devotions. You will love it here!
We are revamping and revising our summer volunteer opportunities so that MORE adults can serve as a part of our summer camp community. Please read further about the different opportunities we offer. If you are interested in joining us, please fill out the Summer Adult Volunteers Interest Form below.

With the introduction in 2025 of the Summer Staff position “Resource Staff”, we felt that the “Resource Pastor” title was confusing, since the roles are very different.
We also believe that “Chaplain” evokes more of a supportive, caretaking role of the entire camp community, not simply a “Resource” that can be drawn upon as needed, but an integrated, essential, supportive member.
The roles are essentially the same but Camp Chaplain has been more defined than it was in the past. Click above on the position description to learn more! -
While we expect that a volunteer in this role will have a background in a medical profession (nurse, retired nurse, EMT, etc.), we are flexible on the amount of medical training you have had. We are fortunate to be a quick ambulance ride away from professional care if the situation warrants it. Please see the position description to learn more!
-
Anyone can be crafty! Whether you are an artist by profession or simply love helping kids release their innate creativity, all you need is a willingness to learn and a patient disposition to teach others! Please see the position description to learn more.

We are working on what this “team” of adult volunteers can look like as Lutherwood continues to build this program. You can help! Please indicate on the Summer Adult Volunteers Interest form WHO you’d like to team up with, WHEN you’d like to come, and WHAT you hope to do together. Make sure that everyone involved fills one out, too, and we’ll go from there!
For anything that the form does not cover, please reach out to Ashleigh Ellsworth-Keller, Program Director.

Yes, most likely! While certain roles require you to be on site for a full camp session (Camp Chaplain, Camp Nurse, and ideally Crafts Leader), others do not require a full week or for you to stay on site if you’ll be nearby.
Please fill out the Summer Adult Volunteers Interest form for the “General Adult Volunteer” role (or one of the other roles, if it applies) and note that you cannot stay a whole week. We will work to figure out how you can best serve camp and if we have the capacity at this time. -
Yes! That is also what the “General Adult Volunteer” role is for. Please indicate this on your form and we will have a further conversation about what this role could look like for you.
-
In the past, Adult leaders have stayed in Spirit Lodge. Due to the higher number of adult volunteer requests, we are shifting housing to Lakeview, which can accommodate 10 people total (or up to four individual family units of 1-3 people apiece). If you would prefer different housing, please reach out to Ashleigh Ellsworth-Keller, Program Director.
Your meals (Sunday dinner through Friday lunch) are included if you volunteer for a full week in an official role. Meals for family members may be included in your stay depending on the age and how many family members you will be bringing. Please reach out for more information. -
Depending on the volunteer role, you may be eligible for a Lutherwood-provided campership for one camper-age child during your week of service. Young children (Kindergarten age and younger) may stay with you free of charge. Please see the position description for more information, or reach out to Ashleigh Ellsworth-Keller, Program Director.
